Just got this: Virginia Congressman Rick Boucher has continued his letter-writing appeal over the dotcom contract ICANN has signed with VeriSign.
Last month, before ICANN Board approval of the controversial deal, he wrote to Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez explaining his concern over the deal, and again to Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust Thomas O. Barnett.
Undeterred, today he has written to the chairman and ranking member of his own Energy and Commerce committee asking them to launch a formal investigation into the deal – which still needs DoC approval to go through.
The letter [pdf] to Joe Barton and John Dingell again outlines his concerns, and refers to the Tunis World Summit and the world government's concerns over continued DoC oversight and bias toward US companies.
He then asks for a “thorough review of the settlement and its implications for the Internet.” We shall see if he has more success this time.
