Amnesty International delivered a petition of 50,000 names to United National special assistant Nitin Desai on the last day of the Internet Governance Forum today.
The handover was part pledge and part promotion of the human rights organisation’s Irrepresible campaign.
The pledge to which the signatories had signed up online read: “I believe the Internet should be a force for political freedom, not repression. People have the right to seek and receive information and to express their peaceful beliefs online without fear or interference.
“I call on governments to stop the unwarranted restriction of freedom of expression on the Internet – and on companies to stop helping them do it.”
You can find out more here. I give Amnesty a couple of my snaps for them to use. Hopefully they will.`
