Run out of space on my 60GB iPod

I have finally run out of space on my 60GB. I mention this fact because Apple launched a new 80GB iPod yesterday. But I’m holding off buying one for three reasons:

1. 80GB isn’t enough. If you start downloading videos and even films, as Apple is now encouraging you to do, that 20GB will be eaten up in a few months. I’m waiting for 120GB, maybe 100GB.

2. Apple still hasn’t brought out a new battery that runs for longer. I don’t know why Steve Jobs has become obsessed with making the iPod as small as possible. I am happy with the size of my 60GB fourth-generation iPod and I would happily have one even larger if it meant the battery lasted longer. I think Apple is missing a trick here. (see here)

3. How you ever tried to shift 60GB of material? It takes a while.

Mind you, I am playing my iPod at the moment and Luther Vandross is coming out the speakers, so maybe I need to be more selective in my music and free up some space.

  1. I thought the new battery does last longer – didn’t he quote something like 6 hours video battery life on the 80GB model?

  2. I’ve got the last generation of 40gb mono screens, and I’m holding off until they have a screen worth looking at, still far too small at the moment. All the mock-ups with touch screens the size of the whole iPod that were going around a few months back were spot on with how it should be.

  3. I agree. I’m not really interested in watching video or films on a tiny, tiny screen, so I will most likely wait for the bigger screen that Apple says is coming. Maybe end of the year for Xmas or maybe new year.

I do find it strange though how we are consistently prepared to go low-tech because of a buzz. Look at people playing games on their mobiles when we ave PlayStation 2s, or people getting excited about photos on their mobile when the quality in the early days was absolutely abysmal. Or early ringtones which were unlistenable.

It’s the excitement of the new…

    Kieren
