I have just finished writing an article about the latest twists and turns of the Sex.com case for The Guardian, and of course stuck at the end the fact that I was writing a book about it which would be published by Quercus later this year.
The editor got back and asked if I had a definite title, a publication date and an ISBN number for the book, so I emailed my publishers to ask if they had. To my surprised they did. The title is Sex.Com – although my working title is “The Brutal Battle for Sex.com” but we can discuss that. It is due to be published on 2 November and the ISBN number is 1905204663.
Just as a bit of a fun I then had a look on the Net for an ISBN search and found one, stuck in my number and was amazed to find I am already up there. You can see it on ISBNdb.com here. It’s an oddly pleasing feeling to see that the book has already entered the system.
And then, as often happens at moments of relaxed euphoria, I was brought crashing down to earth by my publisher telling me that if I wanted to hit the 2 November publication date, I had to get the book to them by the very, very latest on 14 August. Just two weeks away.
With that reality blast, I am now going to throw myself into the book and desperately try to finish it in that time. So if there aren’t any blog posts for a while, you now know why.

July 31, 2006 at 6:03 pmIt was it in the Quercus “forthcoming” catalogue more than six months ago! Nice to know they have such faith in you, eh? If you ever meet that Anthony Cheetham, try and nick his fags from him – I tried it ten years ago at a publishers bash, and got away with it. Candy from a baby…
